The short answer
Buy the Fellow Ode Gen 2 if you only brew filter coffee and want a compact grinder built for it. Buy the DF64 Gen 2 if you brew espresso, or might - its stepless adjustment reaches espresso fineness, which the Ode cannot.

1. Choose this for filter only
Fellow Ode Brew Grinder Gen 2
Upper-mid tier · A 64 mm flat-burr grinder built only for filter coffee - it does not do espresso.
64 mm flat burrs, 31 settings and a compact body - built for filter coffee.
The Ode Gen 2 uses 64 mm uncoated stainless flat burrs across 31 settings, loads single doses of up to 100 g, and runs a motor held at 1400 rpm by a PID. It measures 9.4 x 4.1 x 9.8 inches.
It is designed around filter coffee, and its range bottoms out around 250 to 300 microns - above espresso fineness.
Its compact, low footprint suits a counter where a tall grinder would not.
For someone who only brews filter, that focus is the point rather than a limitation - see grinders for pour-over.

Where it gives ground
- Cannot grind fine enough for espresso, by design
- 31 settings is modest if you brew many methods
- Buying it and then wanting espresso means buying a second grinder
Skip it if
Skip it if espresso is anywhere in your plans. It cannot grind fine enough.
2. Choose this for espresso and filter
DF64 Gen 2
Upper-mid tier · The 64 mm flat-burr single-dose grinder that made the format mainstream at home.
64 mm flat burrs, stepless adjustment and retention under 0.1 g.
The DF64 Gen 2 uses 64 mm stainless flat burrs with stepless adjustment, retention listed at under 0.1 g, a 250 W motor at 1400 rpm and a 50 g hopper.
Stepless adjustment lets it reach espresso fineness and set any point in between, which the Ode cannot.
Aftermarket 64 mm burr sets let you change its character over time.
It is larger - 30 cm tall and 6.8 kg - and takes extra time per brew for its bellows and dosing cup - see the DF64 review.

What it does well
- 64 mm flats are the burr size the espresso world benchmarks against
- Burrs are swappable, so the grinder can be re-tuned rather than replaced
- Ionizer probes in the chute keep static manageable
Where it gives ground
- Heavy and tall for a home counter
- Stepless adjustment with no detents demands note-keeping
- Version numbering across sellers is genuinely confusing
Skip it if
Skip it if you only brew filter and want a compact grinder. The Ode is built for exactly that.
Same burrs, different jobs
Burr size alone does not decide what a grinder is for. The Ode's range and adjustment are set up for filter coffee, while the DF64's stepless mechanism reaches all the way to espresso.
